Applications Open for the Second Edition of the Composition Scholarships
The Fundació Ferrer de Música and the Federació de Joventuts Musicals de Catalunya are opening applications for the second edition of the Composition Scholarships, offering four scholarships of €25,000 each to once again support contemporary musical creation and the professional development of young composers.
The scholarships are open to composers born in or after 1991 who hold Spanish nationality or are legally resident in Spain and can demonstrate an artistic, academic or professional background in musical composition.
A Comprehensive Programme Supporting Musical Creation
Beyond financial support, the Composition Scholarships offer a comprehensive professional development programme that includes specialised mentoring, artistic residencies, collaboration with professional performers and ensembles, rehearsals, recordings and public premieres of the works created.
During the scholarship period, each of the four selected composers will be required to develop two original, previously unpublished and unperformed works: a piece for chamber ensemble or soloist lasting approximately ten minutes, and a symphonic work lasting approximately five minutes.
The works will premiere as part of the activities organised by the Federació de Joventuts Musicals de Catalunya and the Fundació Ferrer de Música. For the symphonic works, composers will collaborate with the Jove Orquestra Nacional de Catalunya (JONC) throughout the creative process and during the premiere, as was the case this October with the recipients of the first edition.
Building on the first edition of the Composition Scholarships, the initiative aims to contribute to the renewal of the contemporary repertoire, foster connections between composers and performers, and strengthen the Catalan and Spanish music ecosystem.
