Award ceremony of the XL Reina Sofía Prize in Music Composition at the Zarzuela Palace
On Friday, November 17th, Her Majesty Queen Sofia presented the XL Reina Sofía Prize in Music Composition to Javier Quislant, composer of the winning work Unda Maris, at the Zarzuela Palace.
Inspired by the author’s connection with the sea and the forces of nature, the work premiered last October at the Teatro Monumental in Madrid and, like every year, the RTVE Symphony Orchestra performed it for the first time. This year, exceptionally, Doña Sofía couldn’t attend the event, so the award ceremony had to be postponed until last week’s reception.
Quislant attended the meeting with Her Majesty accompanied by Sergi Ferrer-Salat, the chairman of the Foundation; Manuel Ventero, the managing director of the RTVE Symphony Orchestra and Choir; Jesús Rueda, the artistic director of the Foundation; and other members of the Foundation, as well as the award-winning composer’s closest family members.
