Once again this year, the Fundació Ferrer de Música is supporting Petit Liceu, the Gran Teatre del Liceu’s initiative that brings opera closer to younger audiences while providing students from the Conservatori Liceu with their first professional experiences. This year, Petit Liceu celebrates its 25th anniversary, with the new season opening on 3 October with the premiere of La jove Aïda, a new production designed for audiences aged 8 and over, coinciding with the arrival of Verdi’s Aida in the Liceu’s new season.

Created by Jordi Casanovas, Marian Márquez and Onionlab, La jove Aïda reimagines Verdi’s iconic opera through a production that combines music, virtual reality, technology and a retrofuturistic aesthetic inspired by early video games. The story follows Aina, a young video game developer who creates a virtual world inspired by Aida to present an innovation at a virtual reality conference at the Gran Teatre del Liceu. Through this universe, she experiences the conflicts and emotions of Verdi’s characters as her own, while exploring the boundaries between reality and fiction.

Music and opportunities for young people

The entire orchestra bringing the music of La jove Aïda to life, as well as its conductor, will be made up of musicians who are current or former students of the Conservatori Liceu and who have successfully completed an audition process. This is made possible through Liceu Aprèn, a project supported by the Fundació Ferrer de Música and the Fundació Conservatori Liceu.

This educational initiative provides professional guidance and support to Conservatori Liceu students and alumni, offering them opportunities to develop their careers and gain their first professional experience in the music sector. Through their participation in Petit Liceu, these young musicians will become part of a major production on one of the country’s leading opera stages.

In addition to Petit Liceu, Liceu Aprèn encompasses other initiatives such as Òh!pera, a project dedicated to newly created micro-operas; Liceu Under 35; and various performances in the foyer of the Gran Teatre del Liceu.

A season bringing music closer to younger audiences

Following La jove Aïda, the Petit Liceu programme will continue with a range of productions throughout the season:

Through its support for Liceu Aprèn and Petit Liceu, the Fundació Ferrer de Música helps make music a tool for learning, development and opportunity, both for young audiences and for new generations of music professionals.
