El estreno mundial de Rémanence, este octubre en el Teatro Monumental
The premiere of the winning work of the 43rd Queen Sofía Prize for Musical Composition is fast approaching. It is one of the most prominent initiatives of the Fundació Ferrer de Música. Composer Luis Tabuenca, this edition's winner, will present Rémanence on 16 October at the Teatro Monumental in Madrid, in a concert by the RTVE Symphony Orchestra conducted by Thomas Herzog.
Rémanence interweaves different narrative and sonic planes into an evocative musical fabric. During the concert, Her Majesty Queen Sofía will present the award, at an event that will also be attended by the Foundation’s president, Sergi Ferrer-Salat.
Since its creation in 1982, the Queen Sofía Prize for Musical Composition has fostered the creation of new orchestral repertoire. With an endowment of €100,000, it is the best-funded award in Europe in its category and, over more than four decades, has established itself as an international benchmark in contemporary classical music.
And, with the aim of recognizing and supporting a greater number of composers, we are expanding the recognition through two new awards. The first prize, worth 100,000 euros, is now joined by a second award of 50,000 euros and a third of 25,000 euros, which will allow us to recognize and support a greater number of composers. Further proof that our commitment to fostering musical creation keeps growing. Applications will remain open until January 15, 2027.
We invite you to join us for this premiere night.
