We announce the winners of the Composition Scholarships for young talent with the Federation of Musical Youths of Catalonia
The Federation of Musical Youths of Catalonia, with the sponsorship of the Ferrer de Música Foundation, is pleased to announce the four composers selected in the first edition of the Composition Scholarships, an initiative designed to support emerging talent and promote contemporary musical creation.
The award-winning composers are:
- Francisco Javier Sánchez Barajas (Colombia, 1995). A Colombian-Spanish composer whose work focuses on memory, identity, and dialogue with other musical traditions.
- Guillem Palomar Angí (Barcelona, 1997). Based in Berlin, his catalog has been performed internationally by leading soloists and ensembles.
- Hugo Gómez-Chao (A Coruña, 1995). Trained with renowned European composers, he is actively engaged in the field of contemporary music creation.
- Jon Esnaola (San Sebastián, 2000). A master’s student at Musikene and member of the Musikagileak board, he combines musical creation with active involvement in the sector.
The call, launched by the Ferrer de Música Foundation in collaboration with the Federation of Musical Youths of Catalonia, awards four composition scholarships of €25,000 each. The selected composers will create two new works—a chamber piece and a symphonic work—which will be premiered as part of the Musical Youths of Catalonia Music Network programming.
Following a rigorous and collaborative evaluation process, the jury, composed of Joan Magrané, Josep Planells, Raquel García-Tomás, and Fabià Santcovsky, highlighted the artistic quality, potential, and originality of the submitted proposals.
This decision marks the beginning of a new year dedicated to creation, risk, and contemporary musical thinking. The Federation of Musical Youths of Catalonia congratulates the selected composers and sincerely thanks all applicants for their participation.
Through this initiative, the Ferrer de Música Foundation reaffirms its commitment to cultural innovation and to supporting new generations of composers, actively contributing to the development and dissemination of contemporary music.
