Call for entries open for the 43rd Reina Sofía Prize for Musical Composition

The Ferrer Music Foundation opens the call for the 43rd Reina Sofía Prize for Musical Composition, an annual recognition of excellence and innovation in orchestral repertoire creation

Established in 1982, this award has become one of the most prestigious composition prizes in Europe and a decisive boost in the careers of composers. In its 43rd edition, the prize continues its mission to celebrate creative talent, contribute to musical heritage, and bring symphonic composition closer to audiences, institutions, and renowned orchestras.

A unique opportunity for creators across Spain

With a prize of €100,000, the award is open to all individuals of Spanish nationality or with legal residency in Spain, with no age limit. Submitted works must be original, unpublished, and not previously performed, and should be composed for symphonic orchestral ensemble.

The deadline for submissions is December 31, 2025. Scores must be delivered in printed format and under a pseudonym to the Foundation’s headquarters, along with the documentation outlined in the official rules.

A premiere of reference and a second performance with JONDE

The winning work will premiere in Madrid at the Teatro Monumental, performed by the RTVE Symphony Orchestra. During this concert, it is expected that Her Majesty Queen Sofía will once again personally present the award to the winning composer.

Additionally, the piece will be included in the spring concert season of the Spanish National Youth Orchestra (JONDE) the following year, providing another opportunity to hear it and reinforcing its presence on stage.
